Lars Carlsson is the Chairman of the Executive Committee for Shipping Emissions and Abatement Trading (SEAaT), the cross industry body of shipping and oil industry members working for cost-efficient ways to reduce harmful ship emissions.
SEAaT was founded in 2002 by Shell, BP, Stena Line, Carnival Corporation, P&O, Teekay Corporation and the Norwegian and Swedish shipowner associations with a vision to reduce ship emissions, ultimately, to a zero target. Lars was the President of Gothenburg-based Concordia Maritime tanker company for twenty years, where he pursued a mandate for safer tanker management practises.
This ethos Lars demonstrated through a ship order strategy that focused on safe, cost-efficient, duel propulsion tankers – the Stena MAX type vessels. From 2001 to 2004 Lars was Chairman of the authoritative tanker industry association INTERTANKO, which represents over 70% of the world's tanker owner fleet.
Lars has also served boards of the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) and the International Tanker Owners Pollution Federation (ITOPF). A Swede, Lars now lives in Zug, Switzerland, as well as regularly spending time in England.
