Every second containership is built according to GL Rules. Germanischer Lloyd conducts the safety surveys on board of over 6,600 ships with more than 76 Mio GT. 126 flag states have authorized GL to perform statutory duties. In the 1960`s Germanischer Lloyd established its Industrial Services. Coordinated by the head office in Hamburg, too, numerous subsidiaries and branch offices around the world offer services in four business areas: Oil & Gas, Wind Energy, System Certification and Materials and Failure Analysis.
