- The Conference
Join us in Hamburg from 19-21 November for the 41st edition of The Motorship's Propulsion & Future Fuels Conference
The Motorship’s Propulsion & Future Fuels Conference 2019 will take place from 19-21 November in Hamburg, Germany and will explore a range of topics such as the final steps to 2020, innovations in NOx and SOx abatement, electrifying the merchant fleet and data-driven efficiencies.
Chaired by Lars Robert Pedersen, Deputy Secretary General, BIMCO; Reinhard Lüken, CEO, VSM - German Shipbuilding and Ocean Industries Association; and Martin Kröger, Managing Director, German Shipowners’ Association - VDR the conference focuses on practical, technical developments in the fields of propulsion technologies and alternative fuels across two conference streams.
This year's programme includes sessions discussing the future applications for hydrogen and ammonia, as well as the fuels which will bridge the gap from 2020 to 2050. Use the link above to take a look at the latest conference programme.
Last year's edition took place from 14-16 November 2018 at the Empire Riverside Hotel in Hamburg, Germany. Celebrating 40 years of The Motorship’s Propulsion & Emissions conference, and nearly 10 years of the Gas Fuelled Ships conference, 2018 saw the launch of one large, combined and enhanced event consisting of plenary sessions and separate streams.
Over the past decade or so the Gas Fuelled Ships conference has explored the evolution of not just LNG but other clean, low-flashpoint fuels, to the point where they can no longer be considered in isolation from more mainstream propulsion choices. With the 2020 global sulphur cap approaching, operating within the constraints of the Energy Efficient Design Index and with tighter CO2 emissions measures almost certain by 2023, these so-called alternative fuels are now an essential feature in ship owner’s propulsion considerations.
The Motorship’s events have changed to reflect this shift, and to take advantages of emerging synergies in discussions around propulsion and alternative fuels. For the first time in 2018, the long-standing Propulsion & Emissions Conference took place alongside Gas Fuelled Ships Conference, under the new banner of The Motorship Propulsion and Future Fuels. Over two conference days attendees benefited from insightful technical presentations either in streams or plenary sessions, with the event culminating in a technical visit to a hybrid powered ship on day three.
The new, enhanced conference combined the audiences from Propulsion & Emissions and Gas Fuelled Ships. Over two conference days attendees benefited from insightful technical presentations either in streams or plenary sessions, with the event culminating in a technical visit to a hybrid powered ship on day three.
The Motorship Conference, Propulsion & Future Fuels, is the one event you should attend to keep up to date with the latest developments in marine technology, legislation and other key issues whilst also offering fantastic networking opportunities!
