Speaker confirmed: Lloyd’s Register

Lloyd's Register to speak on hydrogen Lloyd's Register to speak on hydrogen

Olav Hansen, Senior Principal Consultant at Lloyd’s Register will join the speakers on our Hydrogen panel on day one of Propulsion & Future Fuels.

Hansen will be discussing ‘the issue of containment’ given that hydrogen properties are in many ways extreme compared to those of LNG and conventional fuels. When developing hydrogen fuelled vessels the IGF-code requires that the safety shall be equivalent to that of conventionally fuelled vessels, and this is to be demonstrated through risk and explosion analyses.

His presentation will focus on safety aspects related to various types of hydrogen storage on vessels, both compressed and liquefied (LH2).

Olav Hansen is a subject matter expert within gas dispersion and explosion phenomena with 25 years of experience with CFD consequence modelling, validation, testing and risk assessments. For several years he has participated in leading R&D projects and IEA expert groups within hydrogen safety. Recently he has been involved in numerous hydrogen safety studies, including several maritime projects where hydrogen is to be used as fuel. Hansen is author of numerous technical papers on safety, consequence modelling and risk assessments, several of these within LNG and hydrogen safety.
